Slatwall

Slatwall is a panel system made of horizontal grooves that run the width of the board, spaced a set distance apart. Hooks, brackets, baskets, and small shelves have a matching tab on the back that slides into a groove and locks in place, so the whole layout can be rearranged without drilling new holes every time storage needs change.

It is popular in garages because it covers a wall in a finished-looking surface while staying flexible underneath. Heavier accessories, like a bike hook holding a full bike, still need to land on a section of the panel that is backed by a wall stud rather than resting only on the panel material itself, since the panel spreads weight but does not add structural strength on its own.

Slatwall usually costs more per square foot than pegboard and takes more wall prep to install, since panels need to be level and properly fastened. The tradeoff is a cleaner look and hooks that grip more securely than pegboard hooks tend to. It is a common upgrade for a wall that gets rearranged often, like a seasonal gear zone or a display-style tool wall.
